Why Ants Keep Returning To Your Home

No one wants to have ants in their home; they can ruin your food and damage your home as well. If ants just keep coming back to your home, there is probably a reason why.

Reason #1: Decaying Wood

Decaying wood can happen when you have a constant water source around your home, such as a leaking pipe or overflowing gutters. All that moist wood makes a perfect place for a colony of carpenter ants, which like to live inside of decaying wood. If this is the case, you are going to need to replace any of the rotting wood contained within the structure of your home and get rid of any around your home as well.

Reason #2: Water Source

Many specific types of ants depend upon having a constant source of water nearby to survive. If your home provides a constant source of water, generally through something such as a leaking faucet, that can be perfect for a colony of ants. Many ant species, such as pharaoh ants, like to seek out water and stay close to good sources. By eliminating your water source, you can help to get rid of the ants.

Reason #3: Sticky Garbage Cans

It is not enough to take out your garbage; you also need to clean your garbage cans as well. Your garbage can, even with the proactive removal of bags, can still end up with sticky sugar and residue inside. Every once in a while you need to clean down the inside of your trash can as well to keep the ants away.

Reason #4: Leftover Grease

Ants love grease and will seek out any source on your stovetop, counters, and food containers. That is why you will want to carefully wipe down your entire food prep area to get rid of all the grease accumulated in the area. Even a small amount, which may not be very obvious to you, will still attract ants.

If you are getting ants in your home, you will want to work with a pest control company to trap and kill the ants. You will also want to figure out what attracts the ants to your home and get rid of whatever it is, so the ants don't return. It isn't enough to kill the ants; you need to keep them from wanting to return to your home. Make your home less appealing to them in the ways described above.
