When the termites eat the pesticide, they die. The exterminator may also spray a repellent around your house. That will create a barrier around your home that termites won't want to cross. 

Interior Treatment

After the exterior has been treated, the exterminator will treat the inside. The treatment can include things like pumping termiticides directly into the nest. That will let the chemicals get to the queen. Getting rid of the queen means that no new termites are being produced. The exterminator may also use things like boric acid. That is a non-toxic chemical that is still deadly to termites. Boric acid can be good if you have pets or small children.
