What Will An Exterminator Do About The Termites In Your House?

Termites are destructive to your house. They get into the wood that makes up your house and start eating it from the inside out. A long-term infestation will eventually hollow out the wood and significantly weaken it. Part of the problem with termites is that you can't always tell that you have them if you look at the area. Nor can you tell how much damage is done to your house. You need to work with someone who knows the signs of termites and how to get rid of them. An exterminator will do that for you. What will an exterminator do?

Inspection

The first thing that the exterminator will do is to inspect your house. They will very carefully go over all the wood in your home to see if they see any damage or other signs of termites. Those signs can include piles of frass. Termites don't want waste in their nests, so they push their excrement out, leaving piles near the entrances of their nests. After the exterminator inspects, they will develop a customized treatment plan for your house and explain your options to you.

Exterior Treatment

Part of the treatment plan is to treat the exterior and area surrounding your house. Treating the outside helps to ensure that more termites won't move from your yard into your house. The exterminator may use more than one method to treat the area around your house. One part of the treatment may be a bait station. These stations are wood that has been treated with some pesticide. When the termites eat the pesticide, they die. The exterminator may also spray a repellent around your house. That will create a barrier around your home that termites won't want to cross.

Interior Treatment

After the exterior has been treated, the exterminator will treat the inside. The treatment can include things like pumping termiticides directly into the nest. That will let the chemicals get to the queen. Getting rid of the queen means that no new termites are being produced. The exterminator may also use things like boric acid. That is a non-toxic chemical that is still deadly to termites. Boric acid can be good if you have pets or small children.

If you have termites, you need to get rid of them. Call an exterminator to do the work for you so the job will be done right the first time.
